Problems identification and performance analysis in small hydropower plants in Nepal

Abstract Hydropower is powered by water, making it a clean source of energy. It contributes about 17% worldwide annual energy generation and 90% national generation, out which 25% its contributed small hydropower plants (SHPs). Thus, Nepal predominantly dependent on for power generation. In quantitative terms, approximately 70% in are SHPs. Unfortunately, there several bottlenecks to the smooth operation these plants, viz. run-off-river with low water flow dry season, insufficiency proper guidance monitoring, regularization inadequate unfriendly policies. The study based primary secondary data considering SHPs spreading from eastern western Nepal. Furthermore, follows multicriteria decision analysis method generalize major issues at sites. Inadequate season not only issue reduction generation; mechanical failure due lack monitoring periodical maintenance predominant reason output. This discusses role flow, unavailability trained workforce rural areas, absence appropriate equipment guidelines inconsistent production plants. Every one three has terms capacity, overall, 50% have as problem, concludes findings research.
